Storm Drain Markers
Riverwatch | River Clean Up | Storm Drain Markers

Storm drain marking is a simple, effective way to remind residents that storm drains feed into our local creeks, lakes and streams and eventually the Crow River.  The C.R.O.W has storm drain markers and stencils available for use by individuals or groups within the Crow River Watershed.

Volunteers taking part in this program paint or adhere a decal bearing the slogan “No Dumping:  Drains to River” on storm drains in their community.  The CROW will also provide volunteers with informational door hangars to be distributed to homes and businesses in the area where storm drains are marked.  The hangars describe the project and remind people to help keep the drains free of chemicals, debris and other waste.

Storm drain stenciling is an educational activity that explains the role of storm drains and raises awareness about water quality.  Few people realize that storm drains empty directly into local water bodies.  Pollutants like trash, grass clippings and chemicals that enter a storm drain, end up in local stream, river, wetland or lake.  These pollutants impact water quality, which affect recreation use, fish and plant species.  This is a great program for 4-H groups, Boy & Girl Scouts or community groups.  Please contact the CROW if you are interested in marking the storm drains in your community.
